Bön Shen Ling is accepting Prayer Requests from those wishing special consideration for themselves or another person. There are ancient Tibetan Bon rituals that may be held for those who are alive and deceased and are a traditional means of accumulating merit, alleviating illness and purifying obstacles.
Geshe Chongtul Rinpoche will perform the prayers at his private temple and may also send them abroad to the Bon Monastery. Please describe your situation or your loved one's situation and Rinpoche will arrange a prayer appropriate to your circumstance.
If you wish to request a prayer, please contact : prayer@bonshenling.org

Ritual for the Deceased
Phowa is a powerful Bon ritual very important for those who have passed. An ideal Phowa would be held within three days of the passing and up to 49 days. It is suitable to ask Rinpoche to perform a Phowa prayer on behalf of the parting of a dear one. The traditional Tibetan way involves the Phowa prayer, then the process of cleaning the body where a number of Tibetan symbols will then be placed throughout the body for three days.
During the three days, friends and family offer a special prayer Bar Do Theo Trol by nuns, monks, and lay spiritual practitioner. On the third day, an additional prayer called Jhang Zhu is performed by a Rinpoche. Jhang Zhu means communication through the spirit realm to feed and advise the deceased. This is given seven times by Rinpoche during the 49 day on the last day of each week. The fourth day marks the first day of the 49 day ritual called Zher Gu. On this day, preferably not a Sunday, you may offer the body to the element of choice: fire (cremation), earth (burial), water, and wind (offerings to the vultures).
Most Bon families choose the Thousand Enlightenment prayer called Me Tok Choe Pa which means flower prayer for the 49 day ritual.
One group will perform the Flower prayer ritual for forty nine days and on the last day of each week, invite or request Rinpoche to hold a Jhang Zhu:
| First week |
Jhang Zhu liberates the spirit from anger and the hell realm. |
| Second week |
Jhang Zhu liberates the spirit from attachment and the hungry ghost realm. |
| Third week |
Jhang Zhu liberate the spirit from ignorance and the animal realm. |
| Fourth week |
Jhang Zhu liberates spirit from jealousy and a lower birth in the human realm. |
| Fifth week |
Jhang Zhu liberates spirit from pride and the demons realm. |
| Sixth week |
Jhang Zhu liberates spirit from all five Poisson and the formless deity realm. |
| Seventh week |
Jhang Zhu liberates the spirit from the six sins produced from the objects of cognition and Bardo fears |
After forty-nine days, we hope the soul has chosen a nice rebirth in a family that enables them to help many people.
